A beautiful landscape ... it is the Levada road leading to one of the most beautiful places on Madeira Island - Caldeirão Verde ( "Green Cauldron " in English) .
The road starts from Floral Park Queimadas (Parque Florestal das Queimadas), Santana and continues through Levada to reach an altitude of 990 meters. In the Park of Queimadas you can see Abrigo das Queimadas House. This house still retains the characteristics of typical houses from Santana. The park is at an altitude of 863 meters .
Along the way we move, the landscape is impressive. Levada to Caldeirão Verde is a real work of art built in the eighteenth century. Everywhere you can see only green, endemic species of plants, waterfalls everywhere. And more than that, the place is ideal for ornithologists. The forests are home to many species of birds, some of which are endemic for the island of Madeira: Regulus ignicapillus madeirensis ("Bisbis" to locals), Columba trocaz trocaz (Trocaz Dove), Fringilla maderensis ( known as "Tentilhao" to locals) .
To get to the destination we have to walk about 7 km and pass through several tunnels. But I assure you it's worth it. What you see, will leave you breathless. A beautiful waterfall that forms a lagoon. This is Caldeirão Verde.
