Journey into the Heart of Buzău County, Romania (Part I)

Once embarked on the wonderful realm of Buzau, there is no turning back ...... all these beauties will remain in a flash in your mind and  heart forever.

Buzău is a land of dream, which is distinguished by its geological diversity that lasted over millions and millions of years, is distinguished by floristic diversity - with its rare species: Dianthus spiculifolius - Beard hung, Rhododendron myrtifolium - Peony mountain, Echium Russicum - Head of the Serpent, Campanula serrata, Ligularia sibirica, Cypripedium calceolus - Lady slipper, Agremonia pilosa etc. and endemic species that are found into the Mud volcanoes area: Nitraria schoberi - Gărdurariţa, Artemisia santonicum, but also herbs ("herbal medicines" as they were called by old people) that are found on Buzău meadows and are looking forward to be picked to heal diseases.

However, Buzau is longer distinguished by particular cultural identity: habits, fairs, festivals of the year and recipes specific to these places, which have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.

Buzău can become a land that you will never forget!

In my long journey through the Land of Buzău, I was impressed by geological and cultural diversity - religious unparalleled wonders shaped stone, both man and the wrath of nature, wonders which I will describe in this article: The Stone Hermitages from Colți and Nucu, The Amber from Colți , The White Stone "La Grunj", The Living Fire, The Mud Volcanoes,  The Meledic Plateau and The Fossils from Slănic River.

The Stone Hermitages From Colți and Nucu

At first glance seem a simple pile of rocks ....... But what  happens if you look beyond these stones? Did you discover the wonders that lie behind them? Surely .......

These are the Stone Hermitages from Colți and Nucu, carved in stone religious monuments of great value for our cultural heritage.

Walking towards these monuments, the journey begins with the stone churches from Aluniş, Colți commune. The church was excavated in the rock cave in around 1274, but it was documented only in 1351. Just going up from the church you can find three cells digged in stone by man's hand.

From Aluniş, you can continue the trip to the mysterious rock hermitages, those from Nucu, Bozioru village. The way starts from Poiana Cozanei, the beginning of Luana's Land, where stands as a witness of old times, The Cell of Dinonisie Torcatorul, attested from 1639. Stone Cave of Dionisie, modeled in stone by man's hand, is the only place in the area that accommodates the surface of plant species protected by law: Dianthus spiculifolius Schur (Barba Ungurului - Beard hung).

To continue your journey, from place to place, you can cool with the sulphurous springs of "living water", as they are called by the locals.

Along the way you progress through the forest, you can be impressed by other religious stone monuments - "Fundul Pesterii", dating from Hollstatt, Bronze. It hosts on its walls drawings and symbols from different historical eras. Other monuments are: Ioan Bogoslav Hermitage or Joseph's Church (attested from 1587), the two Agathons - Old Agathon and New Agathon (dating from 1587) and  Agathon's Cross (the people call it "Piatra Îngăurită"), which is attested from 1524.
